iPhone Screen Has Green Lines, Flickers or Won’t Respond to Touch?
Lines across the screen, flickering and touch problems are some of the most common things we see. Some can be fixed with a restart; most lines cannot. Here is how to tell.

What usually causes it
Green, pink or white vertical lines almost always mean the display panel itself is damaged — often after a drop or pressure in a pocket or bag. The lines can appear days after the drop, and they usually spread.
Flickering, ghost touch or touch not responding can be the screen, the display connector inside, or occasionally software. A restart tells you quickly which one it is.
Screen lifting from the frame is different: the battery behind it may be swollen. Stop charging the phone and bring it in.
Try these first
- Force restartPress and release volume up, press and release volume down, then hold the side button until the Apple logo appears.
- Update iOSIf the phone works well enough, go to Settings → General → Software Update.
- Remove the case and screen protectorA cracked protector or a tight case can cause ghost touches.
- Check againIf the lines or flickering are still there after a restart, it is a hardware problem and the screen usually needs replacing.
Stop using it and get it checked if
- The screen is lifting or bulging — a swollen battery is a safety risk.
- There is broken glass that can cut your finger.
- The phone got wet through a cracked screen.
- The lines are spreading or the screen goes black — back up your photos while you still can.
