iPhone Won’t Turn On — Repair the Board or Buy a New Phone?
A phone that suddenly will not turn on is scary, especially when your photos and WhatsApp chats are inside. Before you buy a new phone, here is what to try and how we decide whether the logic board can be repaired.

Try these first
- Charge it for 30 minutesUse a cable and charger you know work. A completely flat battery can take a while before the Apple logo appears.
- Force restartPress and release volume up, press and release volume down, then hold the side button for 15–20 seconds.
- Check the screenIf you hear sounds, feel vibration or the phone rings when called, the phone may be on and only the screen is dead.
- Still nothing?Stop charging it again and again, and do not open it yourself. Bring it in so the technician can find the real cause.
Battery, screen or logic board?
Battery: very old batteries can stop the phone from booting, or make it switch off at 20–30%. This is the simplest fix.
Screen: the phone is on (it vibrates, rings or connects to the computer) but the display stays black.
Logic board: no sign of life at all, stuck on the Apple logo, or it died after water or a drop. A short circuit or a failed chip on the board is common — sometimes after another shop already replaced parts without fixing it.
When board repair is worth it
- Your photos, videos and chats are not backed up — a new phone will not bring them back, while a board repair gives you a chance to keep them.
- The phone is a recent model that would be expensive to replace.
